Coffee Presses
A coffee press is a simple and inexpensive kitchen gadget that makes brewing coffee at home easy. It’s an ideal solution for anyone who doesn’t want to invest in a full espresso machine or who simply wants the convenience of making one cup of coffee at a time. Coffee presses are also great for people with limited mobility, such as those recovering from surgery, because they don’t require any arm movements to use them.
A typical coffee press consists of two parts: the plunger and the carafe (or beaker). The plunger fits snugly into the top half of the carafe, forming a seal between them when you push it down. The bottom part usually has some kind of filter on it that separates grounds from your finished coffee.
To use a coffee press, you place coarse ground coffee in the bottom of the carafe, add hot water, and stir. After a few minutes, the coffee will have steeped long enough and you can push the plunger down to trap the grounds at the bottom of the carafe.
This leaves you with a cup of hot coffee with all of the delicious flavor and none of the grit.
